ARCFOX Pure Electric Vehicle: Defining New Energy Vehicles with Minimalist Technology

ARCFOX is a high-end new energy electric vehicle brand created by BAIC Group in 2016 by integrating Daimler and Magna and other global resources. It is a boundary-breaking move by BAIC to break the traditional pattern of the fuel car market. The ARCFOX brand name is derived from “Arctic Fox”, which symbolizes the concept of intelligence, agility and environmental protection, and the brand includes three value cores, namely, “Boundless Aesthetics”, “Humanistic Technology” and “Ultimate Experience”. In 2017, the first concept car, ARCFOX-1, was unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show in China; in 2018, the next-generation electric supercar, ARCFOX-7, was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland; in 2019, the exclusive and first commercial 5G pure EV IMC architecture platform was launched; and in 2020, the first production model of the ARCFOX brand, the ARCFOX αT, was officially launched, which marked the ARCFOX brand’s leap from concept to actual landing.

BAIC and Magna’s manufacturing base for high-end new energy vehicles is located in Zhenjiang, China, marking the first time Magna has invested in an automotive production plant outside of Europe, where the ARCFOX vehicles are manufactured.The plant fully imports the MAFACT production and operation management system, and has the same level of manufacturing standards as those of first-tier luxury automobiles, covering five major workshops, including stamping, bodywork, painting, general assembly, and battery pack. The factory has the first 30JPH steel-aluminum hybrid body production line in China, capable of realizing 290 sets of German KUKA robots connecting with 206 sets of equipment, and the combined automated production line is able to realize the automation rate of connecting points to reach 100%, and the body riveting point qualification rate to reach more than 99%. In the process of transmission system, 52 sets of ABB high-performance robots form a fully automatic transmission system, which greatly improves the overall production efficiency. The assembly workshop also realizes 24-hour real-time online monitoring program, which can automatically identify key processes in the production process and automatically tighten them, automatically measure and automatically adjust the vehicle chassis to ensure a high degree of consistency in the quality of the vehicle, and the Zhenjiang plant of ARCFOX Automobile has won two awards of “China’s Top Ten Body” and “Best Material”, breaking the record of 60,000N-m/° in torsional stiffness of the new HI version of ARCFOX αS, The Zhenjiang plant of ARCFOX has also won the “China’s Top 10 Car Body” and “Best Material” awards, and the torsional stiffness of the new HI version of the ARCFOX αS has broken the record for a production car, reaching 60,000 N-m/°.

ARCFOX Automotive’s research and development is reflected in its open and shared global industry chain cooperation, as it has deep cooperation with Magna to share its technology and solutions in high-end automobile manufacturing. In addition, since 2017, ARCFOX Automotive has signed a strategic agreement with Huawei to collaborate on various aspects of overall technology development, product innovation, and intelligent transformation of vehicle software. ARCFOX’ R&D network consists of three major geographic regions: the Global R&D Center in Beijing is mainly responsible for the vehicle’s three electric systems; the R&D Center in Germany is mainly responsible for chassis tuning; and the R&D Center in Silicon Valley is mainly responsible for the vehicle’s intelligent driving. ARCFOX vehicles have technological advantages in the following areas:

1. IMC Architecture Platform: This is the world’s first commercial 5G technology platform IMC architecture, which is the core technology jointly developed by ARCFOX and Huawei. It supports L4-level autonomous driving hardware pre-built functions, and is equipped with 23 industry top-class LIDAR sensors, millimeter-wave radar sensors, and high-definition cameras, which can realize various intelligent driving functions, such as “intelligent lane change”, “cornering cruise”, “transparent chassis”, and so on, while the vehicle is driving. The architecture of this kind of IMC adopts a modular design, supporting the vehicle wheelbase in 2.5-3m within the distance of the model expansion, the powertrain covers to 160kw-473kw between the vehicle with the battery density of up to 194wh/kg, the range can be more than 700km.
2. Million-dollar luxury car-level safety standards: ARCFOX vehicles all adopt a hybrid body structure of “steel on top and aluminum underneath”, with a torsional stiffness of 55,000N-m/°, which is beyond the level of Rolls-Royce Phantom. The amount of hot-forming steel is twice as much as the industry average, and the body has up to 3,863 connection points, with the riveting process reaching a pass rate of 99%. Its safety performance is also reflected in the protection of the battery, ARCFOX car protection level of IP68, through the 1000 hours of salt spray test, can still realize “zero spontaneous combustion”.
3. Intelligent assistance and cockpit systems: ARCFOX cars are equipped with the α-Pilot system, ADS high-level intelligent driving system with three 96-line laser radar, which can support the vehicle’s adaptive cruise function, lane keeping function, emergency automatic braking function and so on. The car is equipped with Huawei’s HarmonyOS system, which supports seamless user flow and articulation, and the response speed of the intelligent voice system is less than 0.3 seconds, which also supports the system’s continuous dialog and multi-command recognition.

ARCFOX α S6 is an ultra-quality, high-class intelligent pure electric sedan. The overall front face design adopts the combination of the iconic air intake grille and sharp LED headlamps, which can adapt themselves to far and near light according to the light source, and the design of the front surround strengthens the visual impact of the vehicle’s front face, realizing the coexistence of a sense of science and technology and a sense of the future. The smooth waistline on the side of the vehicle extends from the position of the headlights to the rear of the vehicle, with large rear wall tires combining dynamism and stability. The hidden door handle design greatly reduces wind resistance when driving. The interior of the vehicle is a wrap-around cabin design, with obsidian black and carbon fiber design, and then use the lava red stitching outlines the lines, giving a person a feeling of youth and a very high sense of technology. The model is equipped with a 21.7-inch center control screen and 12.3-inch full LCD instrumentation, which is visually stunning. The “gaming-level” seat design and ergonomics make the driver comfortable even after long hours of driving. 256-color wide-area ambient lighting can be freely switched according to the driving mode, and the secondary screen in front of the passenger seat can support user-defined text, which meets the demand for personalization. The ARCFOX α S6 is paired with Huawei’s ADS 3.3 system, and it has a pure electric range of 735 kilometers, one of the highest ranges in its price range, and accelerates to 100 kilometers in just 6.4 seconds. It also supports an 800V full-range supercharging program and has a low battery temperature retention rate of over 85%. The vehicle is also particularly good at active and passive safety while driving, including anti-lock brakes, brake assist, and traction control.

In the new energy vehicle industry, ARCFOX won the “Global New Energy Vehicle Innovative Technology Award” issued by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and ranked among the top three in the J.D.
